After a careers advice evening at school, my headmaster told my parents the reason I wanted to become a Doctor was a "vendetta against the medical profession". To be fair, he was probably right.
From a young age all I wanted to do was play sport. I was fortunate to represent school, club and county at both Rugby and Cricket. Unfortunately, at age 15 I suffered an injury to my lower back that was mis-diagnosed and mis-managed by numerous health care professionals. This in turn had a significant impact on my ability to continue playing sport at a high level.
This experience cemented my path in medicine and subsequently Orthopaedic surgery. I love my job and take great pleasure in being able to help people with knee symptoms that affect their quality of life. I will not forgot the impact my personal experiences had on me and feel fortunate that I can use them as a positive driver to ensure I provide the best possible care for my patients at all times.
Mr Childs undertook his medical educational at the University of St. Andrews and the University of Manchester.
He then went on to complete his specialist Orthopaedic training within the North West of England.
After finishing his training and becoming a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons, Mr Childs undertook two fellowships to further his expertise in the management of knee disorders. The first was at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital where the focus was on joint preservation and the second at Wrightington Hospital where the focus was on joint replacement.
Mr Childs has an NHS Practice at The Royal Bolton Hospital.
