Knee replacement
When arthritis causes pain that stops you sleeping, walking or doing the things you enjoy, and other treatments no longer help, a knee replacement can make a big difference to your quality of life.
I completed a joint replacement fellowship at Wrightington Hospital and offer the full range of knee replacement options, including robotic-assisted and custom-made implants.
Is it time for a knee replacement?
- Pain that wakes you at night
- Walking distance getting shorter
- Pain despite painkillers, physiotherapy, weight loss or injections
- X-rays showing advanced arthritis
Options
- Partial knee replacement: only the worn part of the knee is replaced
- Total knee replacement: both sides and sometimes the kneecap surface are replaced
- MAKO robotic-assisted knee replacement: precise planning and bone preparation guided by a CT-based 3D plan
- Custom-made knee replacement: implants made to the shape of your own knee
- Revision knee replacement: replacing a knee replacement that has worn or failed
Your journey
- Consultation and X-rays

- Physiotherapy starting on the day of surgery
- Follow-up with me
Paying for surgery
Knee replacement is covered by most health insurers. If you’re paying for yourself, each hospital offers a fixed-price package covering the operation, your stay, and follow-up care.
